Decorative Art - A History
The decorative arts are the beautification of objects that serve a functional and practical use. This included architecture, ceramic arts, furniture, jewellery, and fashion design. Designers like William Morris and John Ruskin were both inspired by the British Arts and Crafts movements and contributed to the field. The four types of decorative art design are naturalistic design, conventional design, abstract design, and geometric design. Some of the most revered decorative designs come from the European Renaissance and the Blue Willow design originating from China. In architecture, the Azulejo in Portugal are examples of decorative designs. These decorative tiles can be found across the architecture of Portuguese cities like Lisbon and Porto.
